Abbott, Grace
(17 nov. 1878, Grand Island, Neb., EE.UU.–19 jun. 1939, Chicago, Ill.).

Asistente social, administradora pública, educadora y reformadora estadounidense. Se recibió en el Grand Island College, siguió estudios de postgrado en la Universidad de Nebraska y en la Universidad de Chicago, y se doctoró en ciencias políticas en 1909. En 1908 comenzó a trabajar en Hull House, de Jane Addams, en Chicago donde fue cofundadora de la Immigrants' Protective League (Liga protectora de inmigrantes). Como directora de la U.S. Children's Bureau (Oficina de la infancia) (1921–34), luchó por poner fin al trabajo infantil mediante leyes y limitaciones a los contratos federales. Promovió la aprobación pública de una enmienda constitucional que prohibiera el trabajo infantil, la que fue elevada a la consideración de los estados en 1924, pero nunca se ratificó. Su libro más famoso es tyThe Child and the State/ty [El niño y el estado] (2 tomos, 1938).
